Syntax-semantics interface

My work on the syntax-semantics interface started with donkey anaphora in Mandarin Chinese (Cheng and Huang 1996), which is also related to the interpretation of question words in Chinese languages.  More recently, by further investigating the interpretation of question words, I ended up studying the free-choice reading of question words, in particular, which-phrases in Mandarin Chinese in comparison with Greek (Giannakidou and Cheng 2006).  This further leads to the re-investigation of dou in Chinese (Cheng, 2009).
