Comparative syntax

I am interested in both macro- and micro-variation.  In the area of macro-variation, I have studied many languages from a comparative (macro-variation) perspective, such as Basque, French, and Chinese.  In the area of micro-variation, I have mainly concentrated on Chinese languages, comparing Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese (Cheng and Sybesma 1999).  Since 2004, I have been working on Zulu, as well as other Bantu languages (from a comparative perspective) (Cheng 2006).
